Do you make excuses that are preventing you from losing weight? You might be doing it intentionally, but it happens. Life is busy, I totally get it! Excuses can overpower the best of us, but we can overcome them.
Once upon a time, I said losing weight was too hard. I didn’t know how to stick with it. I just never had time to exercise. And I just love junk food sooo much! Just give me my Sour Patch Kids and leave me alone!
But I did it. I love health and fitness. How did I get here? I overcame my excuses and found a new passion along the way.
Now, let’s talk about you.
Have you ever started a diet and failed? How about have you wanted to lose weight, but never even started. What was your reason?
Just think about it.
When you admit what is holding you back you can start to break through that barrier.
There are tons of reasons, or shall I say excuses (because that’s really what they are), on why people just give up.
Don’t let these excuses that are preventing you from losing weight keep you from your goals any longer. It’s time to take control of your health and finally achieve your weight loss goals!
You have no time.
How are you so busy that you have absolutely no time to squeeze in some exercise or prepare a healthy meal? I don’t buy it.
If you really want to make a lifestyle change, then you will find the time.
You don’t HAVE to go to a gym to exercise. You don’t HAVE to prepare a 5 course healthy meal with 20 ingredients every night. But you do have to make time to be good to yourself.
Take a look at your daily schedule. See if you can make some changes.
If not, then you have to work with what you got.
Squeeze in time to exercise during the day.
Kids have soccer practice? Walk around the practice field. Have to pee? Do 25 squats or lunges each time you go. Watching TV? Come on now, if you’re lounging around watching TV, then you have time to exercise. Have only 10 minutes to spare? Do an interval workout; jog in place for one minute and march in place for one minute. Do this five times.
Buy the steamable bags of veggies. They’re super convenient, easy, and healthy. They’re great to have when you’re short on time.
Prep your meals ahead of time. If you are go go go all week, make your meals on a Sunday afternoon. You can make individual meals, or you can just make a bulk meal that you can eat on all week.
You have to make time for yourself! Your health is important. You are important.
You don’t like healthy foods or exercise.
Guess what? You’ll learn to like it. Call it tough love, but I am being 100% honest! I used to hate pretty much any vegetable that wasn’t a cucumber or a carrot. Now I love most of them. Notice how I said “most”. I don’t like tomatoes. Never have, and still don’t. Hey, you can’t win em’ all!
I learned to like veggies by reminding myself that they are healthy and eating them will be beneficial to my body.
Knowing healthy foods will make you healthy should be enough to get you to eat them.
And you should definitely learn how to prepare them in ways that are oh so yummy. That way eating veggies won’t feel like such a chore.
After all, isn’t the desire to be healthy what made you want to start a lifestyle change in the first place? You are what you eat. You need to make healthy choices. Now, I’m not saying you can never have donuts again. You should treat yourself. Make it a weekly thing. Having treats keeps you on track and out of the crazy house.
The same thing goes for exercise. If you hate running, don’t run. Hate group classes? Then don’t go. If you hate lifting weights, then don’t lift weights. Why would you torture yourself a few times a week? If it doesn’t make you happy then don’t do it.
What you should do is find something you love. Try new things. Try things you never thought you would like.
I never even considered picking up something that was over 15lbs, and here I am, squatting my own bodyweight.
I am totally for the phrase “Find your fitness”.
Live by it. You will find it.

It’s too hard.
Well it’s definitely not easy. If losing weight and getting in shape was easy, everyone would be fit.
It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. Now I’m not saying the whole journey is going to be unbearably difficult. Some days you will wonder why you didn’t start earlier and some days you will struggle. The struggle is what counts the most. Keep your head up, push through the difficulty and you will reap the benefits.

You will get the hang of things, and it will get easier. Meal prepping will be second nature. Going to the gym 4-5 days a weeks will be a habit. You have to create these new habits, and they will become a part of your life.
Think about a habit that you do every day that you don’t think twice about. For example, brushing your teeth. Do you ever not brush your teeth because you just don’t feel like today? I hope not! Because brushing your teeth is something you will always do everyday. Because it’s a habit.
Eat healthy every day. Exercise often. Keep it up, and you’ll form new healthy habits.
Once you start your journey and really make a commitment, and start to see results, you will see.
It’s hard to describe a feeling to someone who has never experienced it. It’s not enough to say “You’ll feel satisfaction.” You will feel satisfaction, but in a way you never have before. You will feel proud, strong, and just downright amazing. The words someone speaks can’t always motivate you and keep you going the way feelings can.
Losing weight will get hard. But you’re a strong person, and you can handle it. Just give it a try, push through, keep going, and when your hard work begins to pay off, you’ll feel exactly what I’m talking about.
It’s too expensive.
I think that when people say it’s “too expensive” live a healthy lifestyle, it’s because they don’t even want to try.
Eating healthy does not have to be expensive. No one is telling you that you have to switch to all pricey organic foods, but you are going to have to put more of an effort into how you shop.
Pay attention to sales and use coupons when you can. Buy what’s on sale and stock up. Stocking up on something you buy weekly when the price is low will save you money in the long run. Do your research and find out how often something goes on sale. If it’s once a month, stock up for the month until it’s on sale again.
Buy frozen fruits and veggies. They’re cheaper than fresh, and they will last longer.
Pick up regular oats in a canister rather than instant oatmeal packets.
Buy bagged brown rice instead of instant or precooked.
Cook at home instead of going out. There are tons of ways to eat healthy on the cheap.
But what about exercise? No room in the budget for a gym membership?
Work out at home. YouTube is free.
You have no support.
You really want to lose weight but your family just doesn’t seem to get it. They’re shoveling chips and cookies down their throats while you just sit there and nibble on your carrot sticks trying not to lose your ish.
If your family is not on board with your decision to get healthy, then it’s time to have a heart to heart with them. Explain why you want to be healthy (and why they should too!). They love you and should support you no matter what choices you make. And if they don’t, get a new family.
You can be sneaky. Slowly start to incorporate healthy foods in the weekly menu. Use lean ground turkey in your spaghetti sauce instead of ground beef. Try new healthy versions of comfort foods, make cauliflower mac and cheese instead of using macaroni noodles. Keep healthier snacks ready to grab and go.
Bonus: Watching you eat healthy and exercise will probably inspire your family to do the same!
It takes too long.
Well, yeah. Losing 20 pounds is not something that can happen overnight. Or a week. And trust me, you don’t want to lose weight super fast anyway. The slower the weight comes off, the harder it is to put back on. So it’s way worth it to lose weight slowly. Remember, slow progress is better than no progress.
Remember, losing .5-2 lbs per week is HEALTHY and NORMAL!
If you’re losing less than that, check your diet and your fitness routine. You might be overestimating your portions and eating more than you need to, or thinking you’re burning more calories than you actually are.
Track your food, track your workouts. Use a heart rate monitor if you can, these are pretty accurate when it comes to how many calories you burn.
Excuses that are preventing you from losing weight are only in the way of your goals. The first step you need to take to eliminate them starts with you. Don’t make excuses if you seriously want to make a change. You’re stronger than you think.
